Installation - Step 2 - SUSE

  1. Open a console/terminal window.
  2. Follow these steps to log in as the super user:
  3. Enter this command:
$ su
  1. Press Enter.
  2. Enter the root password.

Warning: The root password gives you administrative privileges on the system.

  1. Press Enter.

The next steps will configure SuSE to use internet media sources to download the required files.

  1. Enter this command: (This may take several minutes to complete.)
# installation_sources -a http://suse.mirrors.tds.net/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/inst-source/
  1. Enter this command:
# installation_sources -a http://mirrors.kernel.org/suse/i386/10.0/SUSE-Linux10.0-GM-Extra/
  1. Remove the CD as an install source, Click "K Menu", then "System", then "Control Center (YaST)", then "Installation Source", then select "SUSE LINUX Version 10.0
cd:///;devices=/dev/hdc" and finally click "Enable/Disable".  Make sure the CD is disabled, then click "Finish".  Close YaST.
  1. Enter this command: (if GCC compiler is not already installed)
# yast --install gcc-c++
  1. Enter this command to install the required HPLIP dependencies:
# yast --install cups-devel python-devel python-xml kdebindings3-python net-snmp-devel openssl libjpeg-devel libusb-dev
  1. The install should start and finish automatically.

Proceed to step 3.
