Oroborus User Manual

Version 1.14.0 (c) Ken Lynch, May 2001

Introduction

Oroborus is a highly configurable, yet small and fast window manager which runs under the X Window System. It has various features such as themes, GNOME compliance, Xinerama support and multi-byte character support to name but a few.

While Oroborus has many features the most notable feature is what is missing. Unlike many window managers, Oroborus doesn't provide a root menu, a task bar or an application dock of any kind for the following reasons:

  1. Oroborus is designed to be toolkit neutral, that is it doesn't use GTK, QT or any other toolkit - just plain Xlib.
  2. Oroborus is designed to be small. Menus, task bars and docks can easily be provided by external applications.

As such, Oroborus should be run in conjunction with other complimentary applications to provide a fully useful system.
