The File Selection Dialog

In this dialog, you choose

You may select a file in the central selection area by double-clicking it or by selecting it and pressing OK. The tollbar on the top of the dialog provides additional functionality, which is described by the context-sensitive help and the tooltips.

The New Game Parameters Dialog

This dialog appears when you have chosen a picture for a new game. It controls the settings of the game you are just starting.

The first listbox lets you select a game type. There are the following types available:

In the second listbox, you choose a tile size, and the listbox at the bottom controls the overall difficulty level of the game. If you choose a more difficult level, you get more points - equally penalty points and bonus points. If the option Use piece mask is selected, the pieces will have the shape of real jigsaw pieces, whereas they will have a rectangular shape if the option is unchecked.

Click OK when ready.

The Save Game Dialog

This dialog appears when you intend to save a game. It has only one option at the moment: Save pixmap controls if the basic pixmap of the game should be saved in the game file. This increases the size of that file, but makes you independent from the original picture file, which may be useful if you want to share your game with friends.

Note that depending on where you obtained a picture, you might not be permitted to redistribute it.

The Properties Dialog

This dialog allows you to set basic properties for the game.

The Use Piece Mask checkbox controls the shape of the pieces. They will have a real jigsaw shape if the button is checked, and they will be simple rectangles if not. Note that this option only controls the default setting in the New Game Dialog, you may still change it there.

The Turn Pieces Around button chooses the way the Turning Buttons work. If set, both turning buttons switch between all four directions of a piece, if not, the upper button mirrors the piece vertically, the lower button turns it upside down.

This setting may be especially useful if you have got only two mouse buttons, because the function of the Turning Buttons may also be achieved by clicking in the Playing Area. See the Playing Documentation for details.

The Right Mouse Button pans around setting controls if dragging the right mouse button inside the playing area moves the visible part of your image. If not, it will turn the piece, according to the Turn Pieces Around setting.

The Allow "Show Full Pixmap" option setting controls if it is possible to see the basic pixmap of the game in its full size when playing. Normally, you may only see the pixmap you have already put together.

The sense of this option is that it may be useful to see the full pixmap when playing, so that one has an idea how the pieces should be put together. On the other hand, originally the possibility to see the full pixmap was thought as a reward for solving the game.

With the Load Images options, you may choose how various standard pictures of the game (like the pause picture) should be loaded.

The Show Background Image option sets if the background image should be visible or not.
